It is round and often slightly edged with a smooth, leathery skin of an orange yellow to dark red in colour when ripe. The interior is separated by membranous walls and white, spongy and bitter tissues into compartments packed with sacs, filled with sweetly acid, juicy, red, pink or whitish pulp.
